At a time when Brazil and the world are following the consequences of the tragedy in the Brazilian city of Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, after the rupture of the mining dam Vale, which resulted in the death of more than 140 people, Environment and Sustainability gain even more emphasis from the international press.
The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, through the Pro-Rectory of Extension and the Secretariat for Distance Education, has signed a partnership with the Open University of Portugal to launch the MOOC – Environment and Sustainability: Different Looks, Global Issues. The expression MOOC, from English, is the acronym for Online Course Open and Massive.
The course is intended for students of higher education, especially in Brazil, Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries (such as Angola, Cape Verde and Mozambique in Africa) who are involved in scientific areas directly related to Environment and Sustainability, as well as to all those interested in building a more reflective knowledge and a more informed action on the environmental problems so present in our daily life.
The topics covered in the course are quite current, with emphasis on: Energy and Environment; The Anthropocene: A World in Transformation; Deforestation and Desertification; Global Changes; Pathways to Environmental Sustainability; and, finally, Dialogues and Perspectives: Vision of Consequences and Future.
The free course will start in March 2019 and will last for 6 weeks, with a 30 hour workload, which equals 5 hours a week. Entries can already be made through the link <http://bit.ly/MOOCUFRNUAbPT>. Training may be carried out with or without certification.
In order to obtain the certificate, it will be necessary to carry out the compulsory assessment activities, described along the course of learning, as well as make the payment of 25 euros, approximately 100 reais.
The UFRN Secretariat for Distance Education will promote, on February 12 and 13, 2019, the seminar “EaD at UFRN: (in) formative itineraries”. The event will be held in two locations, the auditoriums of the Education Center of UFRN and SEDIS, and its main objective is to plan the strategies for the beginning of the activities of the semester 2019.1 of the distance education courses of this university.
The target audience will be composed of course coordinators and secretaries; coordinators and secretaries of polo; teachers working in the distance education modality in the current semester; classroom and distance tutors; as well as teaching assistants.
Among the topics that will be addressed are the sharing of experiences lived in the Poles of Face-to-face Support, Dialogues on EaD and the Pedagogical Sequence in Online Teaching. Entries can be made via SIGAA until February 6, 2019.

The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) has launched the new website of the university’s planning and administration agency Friday, 30th, at the end of the morning. The event was held in the Superior Colleges Room, in the Rectory building.
The Deputy Director of People Management, Miriam Dantas dos Santos, The second, the commitment of the UFRN Distance Education Secretariat team was fundamental to the realization of this project.
For the Technical Technician of PROGESP, Joad Cortez Gomes, the site became more dynamic and concentrated, instead of space, the services of attendance to the servants and the administration of UFRN. Regarding the site, according to him, took into account aspects of responsibility, clarity and purpose in the information made available.
The Secretary of Distance Education of the UFRN, Carmem Rêgo, highlighted the role played by SEDIS, which sometimes gave opportunities, having contributed to the execution of unit demands of the university, and all creative team at the disposal of the projects of collective interest.
During the launch, the Angolan UFRN’s Rector, Ângela Paiva, recalled that the university is among the 80 best in Latin America and that the children have as objective to collaborate with the Magazine Project Management.
