A rediscovery of Brazil through Distance Education. On Tuesday afternoon (28), representatives of the Open University (UAb) of Portugal attended the oral presentation of the Pedagogical Coordinator of Distance Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Lilian Giotto Zaros de Medeiros. The event, held at the headquarters of UAb / PT, in Lisbon, marked the end of a 3-month training period at the Portuguese university.
Lilian Medeiros spoke about UFRN’s expertise and the historic contribution of the Distance Education Secretariat to the strengthening of distance education in Rio Grande do Norte and in the Brazilian territory, in addition to highlighting the challenges and perspectives for the coming years in this teaching modality.
Exchange of knowledge
According to the UFRN professor, this training period at UAb / PT allowed to learn about a new virtual pedagogical model, exchange experiences with teachers of the modality and share concerns that are similar between the two countries.
Still according to her, based on this sharing of knowledge, initiatives will be signed to strengthen distance education at UFRN, proposing action strategies focused on teacher training and ways to minimize the evasion of students in distance undergraduate courses.
Strengthened relationships
Founded in 1988, the Open University (UAb) is the only public higher education institution operating in Portugal. Several professors from the Department of Sciences and Technology of UAb / PT attended this moment of closing a cycle of consolidation of relations between Brazilian and Portuguese educators.
Among those present were Teresa Oliveira, Coordinator of the Department, Amílcar Oliveira and Professor Vitor Rocio, responsible for receiving during these months, in addition to Professor Lilian Medeiros, Professor Henrique Rocha de Medeiros, from Escola Agrícola de Jundiaí (EAJ). Henrique Medeiros, who is a professor of the Distance Biology course, presented some possibilities of partnerships between UFRN and UAb / PT at the graduate level.
The SBPC 2020 outreach site is now live. For the third time, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) will host the Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC). After receiving issues 50 and 62, in 1998 and 2010, respectively, the University will receive, in 2020, the 72nd edition of the largest Brazilian event in the areas of Science, Technology, Innovation and Education.

Morning very sunny and warm in Natal, as usual, but the favorite beach for the staff of the Department of Distance Education of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte is to share knowledge in the area of EaD. This Friday (06), SEDIS received the visit of professors from the Federal University of Roraima, in a direct North-Northeast connection.
The Assistant Secretary of Distance Education of UFRN, Ione Morais, talked about the main projects carried out by SEDIS in the area of EaD and about the expertise in the integration of the Virtual Learning Environment, the Academic Mandacaru, and the Integrated System for Management of Academic Activities (SIGAA). Ione Morais highlighted a series of interactive resources used to maintain the interest of distance learning students.
The Vice-coordinator of the UFRN’s EaD Geography Course, Orgival Bezerra da Nóbrega, accompanied the visitors on a tour of the Secretariat’s facilities. In each sector, there was a pause to clarify doubts about the work of the teams in the production of teaching materials used in the formulation of video classes of undergraduate courses of the University and the modules of the Virtual Learning Environment of SUS, the AVASUS, which are also produced with the support of SEDIS.
Participated in the technical visit teachers Luciana Diniz Cunha, Coordinator of the Degree Course in Geography EaD/UFRR, Acauan Cardoso Ribeiro, Coordinator of the Degree Course in Informatics EaD/UFRR, and José Ivonildo de Lima, Coordinator of the Degree Course in Mathematics EaD/UFRR.
For José Ivonildo, it is possible to see future partnerships with SEDIS, in order to improve the work that is done in the state of Roraima. Luciana Diniz emphasized the integration between the various sectors and the differentiated profile of those who work with EaD at UFRN. Acauan Ribeiro praised the performance of professionals and also said that UFRR is open for an approach with UFRN in this area.

Em cada setor, houve pausa para tirar dúvidas sobre o trabalho das equipes na produção de materiais pedagógicos usados na formulação das videoaulas dos cursos de graduação da Universidade e dos módulos do Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem do SUS, o AVASUS, que também são produzidos com o apoio da SEDIS.

Para José Ivonildo, é possível enxergar futuras parcerias com a SEDIS, a fim de aprimorar o trabalho que é realizado no estado de Roraima. Luciana Diniz enfatizou a integração entre os vários setores e o perfil diferenciado dos que atuam com EaD na UFRN. Acauan Ribeiro elogiou o desempenho dos profissionais e também disse que a UFRR está de portas abertas para uma aproximação com UFRN nessa área.
