We came to the last report of the special series on EaD in RN. We passed information on distance education courses and the sectors that work in this type of education at UFRN, at the IFRN, at UERN and, finally, we will present the scenario of the EAD at the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid, UFERSA, whose campus is located in Mossoró, the second largest city in Rio Grande do Norte.

At the university, the Distance Education Nucleus (NEaD) works, responsible for the management of the EaD courses available to the external public. According to the general coordinator of NEaD / UFERSA, Maria de Lourdes Fernandes, the main mission of offering distance courses is to contribute in a relevant way to the internalization and the dissemination of quality and free Higher Education in all regions of the state.

Still according to the manager, this means that citizens do not have to go to the big urban centers or leave their families, their jobs and their life, in search of the so dreamed professional qualification. With this action, knowledge is disseminated in a sustainable way and can be applied in each region, developing the potential of that area effectively, completes Lourdes Fernandes.

At present, four higher distance education courses are offered by UFERSA, all in the area of licenciatura. They are: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Computing. The courses are distributed in seven poles that work in counties such as Caraúbas, Guamaré, Angicos, Marcelino Vieira and Pau dos Ferros. In these places, the students have pedagogical support and carry out some face-to-face activities.

In the list of frequently asked questions to the NEaD, the one that heads the questionnaire concerns the form of entrance in the courses. Therefore, it is good to pay attention to the answer: the student can enter the distance courses through the National High School Examination (ENEM) or the Freire Platform. The selection is not made through the SISU, but through a specific selection made available by NEaD when vacancies are available.
